HayaShield ("we", "our", or "the extension") is a browser extension that helps users browse the internet with greater modesty by detecting and blurring images containing people. This privacy policy explains how we handle your data.
What Data We Collect
We Do NOT Collect:

- Images you view
- Websites you visit
- Personal information
- Usage analytics
- Crash reports
- Any data transmitted to external servers
What We Store Locally:
The extension stores the following data only on your device using Chrome's local storage:

How the Extension Works
Local AI Processing
HayaShield uses artificial intelligence to detect people in images. All AI processing happens entirely within your browser.
The extension uses lightweight pre-trained on-device AI models to detect people in images and support your selected modesty mode (Strict, Men's, Women's, or Off).
These AI models:
- Run locally in your browser
- Do not send images to any server
- Do not require an internet connection after initial installation
- Process images only in memory, never saving them
Image Processing Flow
- When you visit a webpage, the extension scans for images
- Each image is analyzed locally by the AI models
- If a person is detected, the image is blurred using CSS
- The original image is never modified or stored
- Results are temporarily cached in memory to improve performance
- Cache is cleared when you close the tab
Third-Party Services
We Do NOT Use:
- Analytics services (Google Analytics, etc.)
- Crash reporting services
- Advertising networks
- External APIs
- Cloud processing services
External Resources:
The extension includes AI model files that are bundled with the extension. No external downloads are required after installation.
Data Sharing
We do not share any data because we do not collect any data.
- No data is sold
- No data is shared with third parties
- No data is used for advertising
- No data is transmitted anywhere
Children's Privacy
HayaShield does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13. The extension is designed to help create a safer browsing experience for users of all ages.
Data Retention
Since we do not collect data, there is nothing to retain.
Local settings stored on your device:
- Persist until you uninstall the extension
- Can be cleared through Chrome's extension settings
- Are not backed up or synced
Your Rights
You have complete control over the extension:
- Access: View your settings in the extension popup/options
- Modify: Change any setting at any time
- Delete: Uninstall the extension to remove all local data
- Disable: Turn off the extension at any time
Permissions Explained
The extension requires certain browser permissions to function:

Why: To save your preferences (filter mode, blur intensity, whitelisted domains) locally on your device.
What we do: Store only your settings. Nothing else.
activeTab
Why: To scan images on the webpage you're currently viewing.
What we do: Process images locally to detect people. No data is saved or transmitted.
Host Permissions (access to websites)
Why: To work across all websites you visit.
What we do: Analyze images locally and apply blur effects. We do not track which sites you visit.
Security
We take security seriously:
- All code runs locally in your browser
- No external server connections
- No authentication or accounts required
- No sensitive data to protect (because none is collected)
- Open to security review
Changes to This Policy
If we update this privacy policy, we will:
- Update the "Last Updated" date
- Notify users through the extension update notes
- Continue our commitment to not collecting user data
Open Source
The extension's functionality is transparent:
- All processing happens locally
- The code can be inspected in the extension files
- We welcome security reviews
